Overview
It is Day 1 so we thought we would give you two treats at once. Folders and the ability to manipulate time in your workflows beyond the existing cron job feature.
Folders
Let us start with folders. Being organized is great. Having a list of all your APIs and workflows was good enough at the beginning. However, as some of you started building hundreds of endpoints things quickly became, let’s say, less organized. We want to bring structure back by enabling you to create folders that you can use to categorize your APIs as well as your workflows. And yes, the folders can have subfolders so we will not run into the same issue again anytime soon. You will also be able to reorder the endpoints more smoothly than before:
Time Actions
Let us switch from organizing endpoints to manipulating time. From the early days of Fastgen, we enabled our users to schedule their workflows to trigger in a regular pattern. Now, you can go beyond that and delay actions within your workflows by a couple of seconds, minutes, hours or even months (even years if you plan that far ahead). You can also have single actions be executed at a specific time in the future or on a regular schedule in the future. Be advised that this feature is for workflows only. If you want to utilize it through an API, you have to add the event-based workflow to the API and use the time actions in there. In our early testing phase, these actions were used for the following reasons and more: Schedule reports to be sent out every day, periodically checking whether a change in the DB occurred and then prompt an action if something changed, sending reminders to end-users a couple of minutes after they joined:
We hope those features will be helpful to you. Please let us know if you have any questions or feedback. Make sure to be back tomorrow for Day 2 of Fastgen Launch week.
Also, sign up for our global hackathon with Product Hunt that starts next week here.
Happy building!
