Prizes will include cash and company swag — but in addition to that, the first place team will receive a video showcasing their project in New York City's Times Square, alongside a trophy.The ethos behind Fastgen has always been to enable builders to ship MVPs quickly, so we encourage everyone to use the hackathon as an opportunity to build a project or startup idea you've wanted to build for a while. Prizes
There are 4 categories, each with their own prize structure.
1. Best overall product
- 1st place: Trophy, video on times square for you & your product + 1k cash
- 2nd place: $250 cash
- 3rd place: $150 cash
2. Best AI product ($250 cash, one winner)
3. Funniest product ($250 cash, one winner)
4. Best use of Fastgen ($250 cash, one winner)
Judging Criteria
The only true requirement for the hackathon is that you use Fastgen in a meaningful way in your project. Fastgen doesn’t need to be your entire backend, but it should play an important role in what you build.
On top of the category themes themselves, we’ll focus on the following elements for determining winners of each category:
- How well the idea is executed
- User experience
- How fleshed out the features are
Timeline
- Applications are due Friday September 8th at 11:59pm ET, we'll tell teams if they're accepted by Saturday September 9th at the latest.
- Monday Sept 11th, 9AM ET — Hacking starts, opening ceremony with Fastgen
- Monday Sept 11th 2PM ET — Lightning talks from Fastgen & Partners
- Tuesday Sept 12th & Friday Sept 15th — Optional in-person build days: Hackathon attendees based in NYC or Berlin can spend the day building alongside the team at either of the Fastgen office
- Wednesday Sept 20th 11:59pm ET - Project submissions are due
- Thursday Sept 21 2pm ET - Winners will be announced

Will I be able to get help with my project?
- Absolutely! The team will be available to help throughout the day
Who can participate in the hackathon?
- Anyone is welcome, from students to industry vets. You’re also welcome to work alone or in teams of up to 5 people.
What is the submission deadline?
- Sept 20th, 11:59pm ET
Where will it be hosted?
- The hackathon will be totally online, hosted on a discord server. Builders in NYC and Berlin however are welcome to come to our offices for build days on September 12th and the 15th
How to submit a project?
- A submission link will be sent in the discord closer to the hackathon
Can I work in a team?
- Yes, teams of 1-5 are allowed
How do I learn how to use Fastgen?
Do I need to be a coder to use Fastgen?
- You do not! While many of our users are technical, Fastgen is a low-code backend, meaning that some areas of the product can be used technically, while other areas require no technical understanding. Some of our most impressive projects were built by users with no technical background at all.
Additional Info
- Any intellectual property developed during the hackathon will belong to the team that developed it. We expect that each team will have an agreement between themselves regarding the IP, but this is not required.
- By making a submission you grant Fastgen permission to use screenshots, code snippets, and/or links to your project or content of your README on our Twitter, blog, website, email updates, and in the Fastgen discord server. Fastgen does not make any claims over your IP.
